If you have installed the Pickzen App from the Shopify App Store, this is the easiest way to import your product catalog.

Importing products from Shopify

To create your products, click on the following button from Step 2. Add products:

If you installed the Pickzen Shopify App, the importer will be automatically configured to import from Shopify and no additional settings are needed.

Two ways of defining the products to import

You can define which products to import by selecting them one-by-one from the Products tab. To select your products, click on the products to select those you’d like to import.

You can also select all or deselect all by clicking on the checkbox found in the header.

Instead of selecting them one-by-one, you can import groups by using tags from the Tags tab. This is only possible when your product feed is tagged. For example, to import all flat shoes:

You can combine additional tags to a blue box by clicking on the box and selecting the attribute in the selector. For example, if you wanted to import all shoes that are flat and slide along with all shoes that have heel and are tagged as comfort you’d set the tags like:

If you import your products from the Tags tab and you don’t select any attribute, all products will be imported:

Is there any difference between selecting all products from the Products tab and selecting All products from the Tags tab?
Yes, there is. Say you want to update your products from Shopify or from a new file. If you selected all your products from the Products tab, only the selected products will be imported but if you use the Tags tab new products can be added automatically, depending on the current product tags.

Editing products

When you edit an existing product from Step 2. Add products, a window pops up that allows you to define the product’s properties:

The fields are:

  • ID/SKU: The unique identifier of the product.
  • Alternative ID: Optional, in case you require another ID
  • Name: The name of the product that will be displayed in the recommendations.
  • Vendor: Vendor of the product.
  • Price: Price of the product without currency. The currency has to be set from the general settings menu.
  • Boost: The boost is used to sort the recommended products. If you want a product to be recommended before another product, assign it a higher boost. The default boost for all products is 1.0.
  • Url: External URL of the product where the user can see more information when the recommended product is clicked.
  • Image: URL with the image of the product.
  • Description: Text with a description of the product. This description can be shown along with the recommendations.

When you import your products from a feed, the fields are filled-in automatically for every product.

Note the pin icon next to the Name and Description fields. If you need to change the name or set the description for your products manually, and you import your products again to update them, the manual information entered previously for these fields will be overwritten unless you clink on the pin icon:

Shopify and feed analysis

Every time you import from Shopify, Pickzen does not connect to your Shopify store to download the products. Instead, to work more efficiently, Pickzen uses the latest version (a cached copy). This means that unless the cached product feed is updated, the same products and properties will be imported, not showing the current state of you Shopify catalog. In the bottom of the Shopify import panel you can see the time of the product feed version (cache) being utilized. You can always update it clicking on Analyze again. Please note: depending on your catalog size this analysis process can take several minutes to complete.

Additional settings you can use are the following:

By default, Shopify product descriptions are not be imported in Pickzen unless Include product descriptions is checked.

Also by default, Pickzen does not import product variants. If you have defined multiple variants for each product, Pickzen only imports the first one. If you want to import all variants you have to check Import variants. Please note: if you import all variants, a product will be created in Pickzen for each variant, and depending on your catalog, a lot of products can be created.

If you don’t want to analyze the feed by yourself to update your products, you can check Synchronize daily and set an update time. This option is only available in PRO and PREMIUM plans.

If you want to exclude out-of-stock products check Exclude out-of-stock products. Please note: if the product has manual categorization, it will be lost when the product becomes in stock again. If you import your feed of products, but categorized your products manually, because your product feed is not tagged, if you analyze the feed manually or automatically and a product is out of stock, this product will be removed from Pickzen. If in the next analysis the product is in stock again, it will be imported as new product, without manual categorization.
